Shippensburg residents can get local public safety alerts by text, email.

SHIPPENSBURG —One of the ways the Shippensburg Area Emergency Task Force will issue local public safety alerts about the novel coronavirus pandemic is by text and email messages.

Residents can sign up by texting 888777 and entering the Shippensburg ZIP code, 17257.

In addition, every page on the Shippensburg Borough website has a link at the bottom to register phone numbers and email addresses with Nixle, the platform used to issue the alerts.

Task force members encourage all local residents to register for the alerts, even if they don’t live in the borough. Any pandemic-related alert will apply to everyone in the Shippensburg Area School District, noted David Lindenmuth, borough emergency management coordinator.

The primary location for task force information on social media will be the Shippensburg Fire Department pages on Facebook (@ShippensburgFireDept), Twitter (@ShipFire) and Instagram (@shipfiredept).

To register for statewide alerts, go to the AlertPA signup website.
